The Greening of the Ports
In 2006, the top 10 ports in the U.S. moved a combined total of 23 million cargo containers, according to the Environmental Protection Agency. The Port of Los Angeles alone moves almost 190 million metric revenue tons of cargo per year. The Port of New York and New Jersey handled more than $190 billion in cargo during 2008, a new record.

OC Regulators, OCERS Scuffle Over Board

The $7.7 billion Orange County (Calif.) Employees Retirement System is shaking up its board of trustees following a spat with the board of supervisors. At last week’s meeting with the board of supervisors, OCERS honored trustee Thomas Lightvoet, who was not reappointed to his seat after serving for 19 years, a move Lightvoet sees as politically driven.
